Hygene was sometimes a quick sponge bath at best, as a leisurely bath was to die for with so many in the house. I remember that doing laundry was an everyday thing, and dishes, and cooking for the household often fell on me - being the oldest sibling at home. Mom was disabled by a traffic accident so most of the housework fell on us kids. Two of us oldest at home had most of the work as the younger ones were involved in lots of school activities like band & etc. Then my sister who was helping me was chosen to go to Calif. to help an older brother. Guess who got then most of the work........me.

I lost my dad when I was three years out of high school, divorced and a child to raise. Dad was my rock to lean on, and he was gone from me.

My next years were sad attempts to keep a roof over our heads and keeping a job that I could like working at...and being the family joke of not being able to settle down, and marrying so many times. I am currently on #5 and he is a gem.

It took me a long time to figure out who I was, what religion was to me, and many other issues. Unfortunately this hurt my daughter a lot........as well as losing a son to adoption (who is now found.) I guess that I was running from what my childhood pushed on me, and the responsibility it gave me. Didn't teach me to be responsible tho.......and am still learning that lesson.

What I did learn was that I am a good organizer (sometimes not for myself) and keeping my house from too much clutter (except for my office.)

Am truly sorry for any pain that I caused my children, but hope that they learn something from the way I lived my life....Amen.

How To Be Politically Correct - Thursday 13 & More

1. He had a beautiful wife and 4 loving children. On September 11, 2001, in Wayne, NJ, Leo Roberts kissed his wife and children and headed to work for the very last time. You see, Leo worked as a municiple bond trader for Cantor Fitzgerald at the WTC Tower 1 on the 104th floor. Sadly, Leo and many others did not make it home from work that day.

He and his future wife, Betty, worked at the same company and fell in love in 1981. They married in 1985. They had 4 children in the duration of that loving marriage: Dan, Michael, Jeffrey and their sister Taylor. Dan shared his love of life and music with his children every time they got in a car together for whatever the reason. All of his children were active in sports and Leo was a willing chauffer because, not only did it give him more time with his children, but it was also the perfect time to teach them about his music... classic rock.

He once told his son Dan that if he would promise to learn how to play Stairway To Heaven, he would buy him a new guitar. Dan did get his new guitar from his mother and played the song at his dad's memorial with his brother, Jeffrey, singing vocals.

This is for you, the Roberts Family and your dad, whom I know is very proud of you.

For a complete list of participants and their honorees, please click the image below.

OLD AGE IS A GIFT

Old age,
I decided, is a gift
I am now,
probably for the first time in my life,
the person I have always wanted to be.

Oh, not my body!

I sometimes despair over my body
the wrinkles, the baggy eyes
and the sagging butt.
And often I am taken aback
by that older person that lives in my mirror,
but I don't agonize over those things for long.

I would never trade my friends,
my good life, my loving family
for less gray hair or a flatter belly.
As I've aged,
I've become more kind to myself,
and less critical of myself.
I've become my own friend.
I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie,
or for not making my bed,
or for buying the silly cement gecko
that I didn't need
but looks so avant-garde on my patio.

I am entitled to overeat,
to be messy, to be extravagant.
I have seen too many dear friends
leave this world too soon;
before they understood the great
freedom that comes with aging.

Whose business is it
if I choose to read
or play on the computer until 4 a.m. ,
and sleep until noon ?

I will dance with myself
to those wonderful tunes of the 60's,
and if I, at the same time
wish to weep over a lost love.....
I will.

I will walk the beach in a swim suit
that is stretched over a bulging body,
and will dive into the waves
with abandon if I choose to,
despite the pitying glances
from the bikini set.

They, too, will get old.

I know I am sometimes forgetful.
But there again,
some of life is just as well forgotten .
and I eventually remember
the important things.

Sure, over the years,
my heart has been broken.
How can your heart not break
when you lose a loved one,
or when a child suffers,
or even when a beloved pet
gets hit by a car?

But broken hearts are what give us
strength and understanding
and compassion.
A heart never broken
is pristine and sterile
and will never know the joy
of being imperfect.

I am so blessed
to have lived long enough
to have my hair turn gray,
and to have my youthful laughs
be forever etched
into deep grooves on my face.

So many have never laughed,
and so many have died
before their hair could turn silver.

I can say "no", and mean it.

I can say "yes", and mean it

As you get older,
it is easier to be positive.
You care less about what other people think.

I don't question myself anymore.
I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question,
I like being older.
It has set me free.
I like the person I have become.

I am not going to live forever,
but while I am still here
I will not waste time
lamenting what could have been,
or worrying about what will be.
And I shall eat dessert every single day.

9/11 TRIBUTE

Leo A. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward. Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Doesn't compute in my book.

They cannot sell the property without a working well, and the county had never approved the original drain field from back in 1998.....and want it moved from it's existing location to another.

Not only would we have to buy all new appliances & floor vents (these were either stolen/or removed from the previous owner) and fix all the electrical stuff and no way to find out if the furnace and air conditioner are in working order. (no power on - sellers responsibility so inspection can be done.)

As I posted in my previous post, I had the flu from Friday to Monday....and still was feeling queasy on Tues.

Was unable to get the duck story out to my public in the blog. Will have to do that next week.

Still walking in a soft support for my right ankle. Some days are better than others.

Company coming this weekend.

A friend that I haven't seen in 5 years...but keep in contact with is coming to visit for a week or so.

Been busy all day getting beds made and general cleaning that has been let go.

The day here in NE Florida is gorgeous with a nice breeze out of the east....love it!!

Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday.
The woes of the world are many and the madness spreads; sometimes you just have to come up for air and let it all go for a while. Victor Frankl said that "to choose one's attitude is the last freedom." While we can't ignore all that is going on in the world, being overwhelmed isn't going to do any good either.

So, a little "found Buddhism" in a country music song by Roshi Lyle Lovett.

Nothing "profound" or "socially relevant," but I feel better after listening. Expecting rain off and on all day.

Having open house on Saturday to try and sell this house, so doing lots of pick-me-ups around the house like little details that have been let slide. Just got my closet organized, have to change the curtains and bed to make it brighter in there. I like my room dark when I sleep, but other people look at it like a dark cave. So time to please others.....than myself. Anything to sell this house. Have to iron sheets today. Most of the ones I have are chambray which wrinkles a lot.

Been some depressed. On so much medication for left groin sprain and right ankle sprain. Kinda makes it hard to get around....and up and down. The groin one is the one that get ya up from the *john* and out of chairs.....and the ankle keeps me from putting much weight on it. My doctor prescribed a "lift chair" but the medical supply companies want them paid for up front first. Gotta call my insurance co to find out how/what they pay before I can get one.

I have been sleeping a lot and not doing much......one sign of depression..at least I admit it. Wish all this house buying/selling were over with....and all the stress that goes with it. Me......the person that is usually upbeat and positive........is in a definite slump. Guess I need a change of pace and less meds. Am currently weaning off of one that could be part of the problem. It causes weight gain and swelling. I have both. So off it I go....and will see if it helps. Almost 20# gained since I started taking the medication. Six more days to go....then done with it. Problem is.....it is preventing nerve pain in my legs from my surgery in December '05. I have enough built up in my system that it hasn't started back hurting yet......will see.

Well, back to the grind.........see ya around.

<img width='1' height='1' Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

2. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

3. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.

4. You should not confuse your career with your life.

5. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

6. Never lick a steak knife.

7. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.

8. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.

9. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

10. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven.

11. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers.

12. A person, who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person. (This is very important. Pay attention. It never fails.)

13. Your friends love you anyway.

Oh, and never squat while wearing your spurs!!!!!!!!

Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. No new posting today, but one that is understandable by itself. Enjoy!!

"There is this feeling that humans have - and we understand why you've got it - that goes like, "I have to find the problem and fix it." Well, that is in part right because the problem is what helps you identify what you do want, but the art of deliberate creating is, once you know what you do want, turning your full attention to that and no longer beating the drum of what you do not want.

So what you're saying to us is accurate. You're saying, "Well, it's hard not to beat the drum once it's manifest." And we said, well, it was easier when it was only an emotion, but you didn't know it so you kept beating the drum. And then it was easier when it was only a sensation, but you didn't know it so you kept beating the drum.

It doesn't matter at what point you decide to stop beating the drum, in the moment you stop beating the drum of what you don't want, well-being will flow right in."

www.abraham-hicks.com
Abraham-Hicks Tarrytown, N.Y., 5/10/03B

Today's Abraham-Hicks

"Now, how is it that you achieve vibrational harmony with something? Well, you observe it, you contemplate it, you chew on it, you talk about it, you think about, you muse about it, you consider it, you remember it, you stew over it. In other words, by giving your attention to something, if you spend any amount of time in your observation of it, you, within a few seconds, usually 14 or 15 or 16 seconds, begin to achieve vibrational harmony with your object of attention, and once that has been achieved, it is yours".

http://www.abraham-hicks.com

Who'd of thought it was so easy?

The Funeral Service

As a young minister, I was asked by a funeral director to hold a grave-side service for a homeless man, with no family or friends. The funeral was to be held at a cemetery way back in the country, & this man would be the first to be laid to rest there.

As I was not familiar with the backwoods area, I became lost, and being a typical man did not stop for directions.

I finally arrived an hour late. I saw the backhoe & the crew, who were eating lunch, but the hearse was nowhere in sight. I apologized to the workers for my tardiness, and stepped to the side of the open grave, where I saw the vault lid already in place I assured the workers I would
not hold them up for long, but this was the proper thing to do.

The workers gathered around, still eating their lunch. I poured out my heart and soul. As I preached the workers began to say "Amen," "Praise the Lord,"& "Glory," I preached, and I preached, like I'd never preached before: from Genesis all the way to Revelations.

I closed the lengthy service with a prayer & walked to my car. As I was opening the door & taking off my coat, I overheard one of the workers saying to another, "I ain't never seen anything like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."

Thursday Thirteen # 6

LILACS

DAFFODILS

ROSES

PLUMBAGO

CERISSA

AZALEAS

GERANIUMS

HONEYSUCKLE

BOUGANVILLA

DASIES

IRISES

DAY LILLIES

VIOLETS

All of these I either have grown or are existing in my yard here in N. It doesn't matter how much money you've got; there are joyful people with no money, and there are unhappy people with lots of money. How you feel is about how you are allowing the Source that is You to flow. So when we talk about the Art of Allowing, we're talking about the art of living; about the art of thriving; about the art of clarity. We're talking about the art of being who you really are."
Expressed by Abraham-Hicks

Wow, allowing ourselves to be happy? I can do this, not so hard in my book. He says.....be happy with the way we are, with or without money or the things we want in our lives. If we allow things to flow in our lives and in our being....we can be happy. Who knew?!!

Just as the waterfall has to go over and around rocks and other debris, it surely finds it's way to where it is going. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth. A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farralone Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed an environmental group for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her ... a very dangerous proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.
They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed gently around-she thanked them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.
The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eyes were following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

May you, and all those you love, be so blessed and fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. People offer all kinds of words for all kinds of different reasons. Most lies are offered to try to keep things in alignment. We're not encouraging it, but the motive behind lying is usually a pretty honorable motive. In other words, when a child lies to their parents, it's usually because they want to be free to do what they want to do, and they don't want their parents to be upset about it. It's about wanting an alignment. Physical ears have a hard time hearing this. You keep talking about "We need to be honest." And we say, we don't meet any of you who are honest. Even those who claim to be the most virtuous, are not honest, but your vibration always is. We would trust the feeling more than the words."
Expressed by Abraham-Hicks

We should always speak true words but more often or not we say things just to make other people feel good. Of course, there is always NOT saying truth to someone if it will hurt them.

I tend to always listen to my intuition when dealing with other people. One cannot receive if one is too busy to let it in.

How do you handle it?

Mom's Tomato Soup

1 can (14 1/2 oz.) diced tomatoes, undrained
1/2 tsp. baking soda
garlic salt to taste
pepper & salt to taste
4 cups milk
2 tbsp. butter/margarine
chopped parsley

Bring tomatoes to a boil, add baking soda & seasonings.
Reduce heat, add milk & butter.
